History

With roots in mining, Sun Valley gained popularity as America’s first ski resort in the 1930’s. Traces of Ernest Hemingway can be found across town from his years living here. To this day, icons can be found wandering the streets and enjoying town.

Community

Sun Valley and Ketchum embody the idea of small town living- where you recognize faces at the grocery store and stop for dogs to cross the street. As a world class resort destination, the tourist economy brings access to cultural happenings, diverse restaurants and a constant flavor of excitement.

A Day in the Kitchen…

Classes mirror the expectations of the foodservice industry; students arrive early to make sure that everything is ready for the day.  Gathering around the demonstration stage, the chef instructor starts class with a quick review of the points learned yesterday, asks students about their readings, and lays out the road map for the lesson.

Financial Assistance

One of the tenants of the Sun Valley Culinary Institute is to provide a  strong foundational culinary education without undue financial burden.  As such, every student who requests financial assistance will be considered based on a combination of need and merit.  If you would like more information or have specific questions, get in touch!

Housing

As a resort community, affordably priced rental housing in the Sun Valley area can be difficult to find.  Allowing sufficient time to find and secure housing is essential. Students are encouraged to begin this process as soon as they are accepted into the Professional Program.

Transportation

The Sun Valley area is easy to navigate whether by foot, bicycle, bus or car.  Our local bus system, Mountain Rides, offers free service throughout the Ketchum/Sun Valley area as well as routes throughout the Wood River Valley.  If you do not have a vehicle, this is an easy and affordable option. During the summer, bicycling is a common way to get around.  Having your own car will make it very easy to head into the mountains when outside the kitchen.
